Members of Palau’s Filipino community will come together Sunday, Feb. 1, to raise funds in support of the families of four Filipino contract workers who lost their lives in a tragic boat incident near Angaur last week. The public fundraiser, organized by the Filipino Community within Palau, will be held at the Palau Community College parking lot and is open to all who wish to help with repatriation efforts.

KOROR, Palau — Members of Palau’s Filipino community will hold a public fundraising event Sunday, Feb. 1, to help support the repatriation of four Filipino contract workers who died in a tragic boat incident near Angaur last week.

The fundraiser will take place at the Palau Community College parking lot from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with organizers accepting financial donations from the public throughout the day.

The effort is being organized by the Filipino Community within Palau (TFCP), with support from former Vice President Uduch Sengebau Sr. and former Red Cross Executive Director Mirriam Rudimch Chin.

In a social media appeal, TFCP called on the public to assist the grieving families, noting that “in times of tragedy, community is our greatest strength.”

The four victims have been identified as Manny Parinas De Leon, Romeo Macapia Jr., Victorino De Leon, and Edelito Acosta.

A funeral service, organized with assistance from the victims’ employer, is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at the Palau Funeral Home Chapel from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
