Two strategic events in Japan and Taiwan that are currently taking place will promote Palau’s culture, environment and sports potential. In Japan, the JATA Tourism Expo in Tokyo (September 20-23) and the Ilan Meihua Lake Triathlon (September 19-26).
JATA Tourism Expo, the world’s largest tourism trade fair, is held at the Tokyo Big Sight, attracting nearly 200,000 visitors to meet representatives from 130 countries/regions and 1,310 companies and organizations.
Joining PVA at the JATA Tourism Expo are several tour operators and hotels from Palau, Ebiil Society, Inc., Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) and Koror State Government. Tourism businesses include Babeldaob Boat Rentals, Lehns Hotel, Palasia Hotel Palau, Palau Pacific Resort, Palau Central Hotel, Palau Plantation Resort, The Cove Resort, Belau Tour, IMPAC Tours, Day Dream and Dolphins Pacific. Ebiil Society attended to demonstrate basket weaving and taro-pounding and to promote environmental research tourism, and PNCC attended to promote their upcoming Pocket Wi-Fi which will be sold in Palau in the near future. The Koror State Government delegation included Director Leslie Tewid, Legislators Jennifer Akiwo and Vierra Joel Toribiong, and Administrator Elizabeth Ikertang. PVA representatives include Managing Director Stephanie Nakamura and Board Members Vann Isaac and Olkeriil Kazuo.
PVA is also fortunate to have five talented dance performers, who are currently students in Taiwan, join the JATA show for a stage dance performance, namely Joki Dirrkalang Jones, Mouana Akiko West, Elangel Yanni Mesubed, Patty Berenges Ucherkemur and Sydney Bisau Ngiraidong.
PVA’s attendance to the Ilan Meihua Lake Triathlon is a result of the June Familiarization visit from the Chinese Taipei Triathlon Association, during which the Palau Visitors Authority and the Belau Triathlon Association met to grow the sports events market, to lure more tourists to Palau. The visit included an invitation to the Ilan Meihua Lake Triathlon, which Belau Triathlon members Ms. Pasquana Flowers and Mr. Paul Zipatan attended with PVA Operations and Programs Manager in order to participate in and observe this triathlon event to further improve Palau’s sports events potential, especially for a triathlon planned for March 2019. This event is organized by the Ilan Country Government – Chinese Taipei Triathlon Association and the Yilan County Sports Association Triathlon Sports Committee – Republic of China Iron Man Sports Association, this two-day race.
PVA is a semi-autonomous body created by law to promote and encourage the development and marketing of tourism as one of the primary economic sectors of the Republic. For additional information, please contact 488-1930/2793 or email to pva@pristineparadisepalau.com. (PR)
