With support from the Koror State Governor and the Koror State Department of Conservation & Law Enforcement; the Australian Embassy commemorated Earth Day on 22 April by organising a clean up event at Ngerblobang.

Joined by members from the Australian community in Palau, the Ministry of State and diplomatic corps; more than 30 full bags of trash were collected and removed from the beach and taken away by the Koror State Rangers.

While the global theme is “Planet Vs. Plastics” Palau’s localised theme is “Investing in Our Community: Safeguarding Our Investments for A Cleaner Future”. With the Rock Islands being one of Palau’s major tourism destinations, ensuring they remain clean and pristine is an ongoing effort

After collecting as much trash as the ranger’s boat could carry, Ambassador Richelle Turner reflected on the day, noting that although plastics are important in our modern lives, Earth Day reminds us that we all have a role to play in minimising the use of plastics and disposing responsibly to ensure our oceans, waterways and beaches are clean.

The Embassy thanks the Koror State and Koror State Rangers for their support, and for disposing of the trash collected.
