President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. signed an executive order on Wednesday, August 8, mandating every office under the executive branch of the government to implement the Zero Disposable Plastic Policy.

Executive Order No. 417 states that all government offices and agencies should stop the “practice of providing disposable plastic and polystyrene beverage containers to employers and guests.”

Government offices are even ordered to purchase water dispensers available for the government staff and the public to use upon visiting the offices and that they should instead provide reusable drink wares.

Each government office is also urged to implement an incentive program that would encouraged employees to bring their own reusable cups and other utensils as necessary.
