KOROR, PALAU — President-elect Surangel Whipps Jr.’s Transition Team reported it has received Exit Reports of the government ministries ahead of schedule as promised by President Tommy E. Remengesau’s Administration.
The original deadline was set for the end of the month but last week at the courtesy meeting of directors with President-elect, the government acknowledged the short timeline the Transition Team has to work with and moved up the deadline to the 23th instead.
“We are very thankful for the cooperation of the government thus far, especially for submitting the transition reports much sooner than the deadline. We look forward to further collaboration as the work continues”, said Landisang Kotaro, lead Transition Team Secretariat.
According to the Transition Team statement, the work is moving forward with a united front first exemplified by President Remengesau and his key staff last week when they personally welcomed President-elect and offered access to government’s services and assistance to ensure a successful handover. The gesture was affirmed this week with the early submissions of the reports.
“This week as we celebrate Thanksgiving, we must give thanks to God that Palau is still safe from COVID. How thankful we are to be Palauans, to live in a peaceful and democratic country, for the opportunity to serve the people of Palau and for His blessings and guidance on the transition work. May everyone enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving and Family Day,” remarked President-elect Surangel Whipps Jr.
The subcommittees making up the Transition Team of President-elect SWJ are tasked with reviewing the Exit Reports of the ministries, including the semi-governmental agencies, boards, commissions, and authorities. The reviews are critical to an effective transition of a new government and the subcommittees are expected to present their findings and recommendations before the Christmas holiday.
The Transition Team of President-elect SWJ is coordinated by a secretariat body led by Ms. Landisang Kotaro. For inquiries, please contact the Secretariat at 488-8857 or email: info.swjtransition@gmail.com.
