Store and houses burned in Ngarchelong

A fire destroyed 3 connected buildings early Sunday morning, May 1, 2022, located in Ngarchelong State.  The buildings housed a convenience store, a barracks, and a storage space according to the building owner.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Justice yesterday, the cause of the fire was due an electrical problem although the owner alleged arson as the cause of the fire.

The estimated loss given by the owner is $150,000 for the buildings and the items according report from Tia Belau.

The buildings are said to belong to Masao and Jane Salvador and were recently leased to Aimeliik former governor Demei Obak for use as a convenient store and barracks housing.  The business is allegedly operated by a Bangladeshi national working for Mr. Obak.

There were no reported injuries or fatalities from the fire incident. (By: L.N. Reklai)
