Palau held its very first Annual National Day of Action parade from Bar ra Meketii to Ernguul Park in Koror on September 15, 2018.

The activity concluded a week of various activities that promotes preparedness during disasters and national emergencies. There were a total of twenty (20) decorated platforms or floats that participated in the parade and showcased various programs and initiatives.

In his opening remarks, Vice President and Minister of Justice Raynold B. Oilouch acknowledged the various agencies such as the State Government, Civil Societies, NGO’s and the National Government for their successful effort working in collaboration in raising awareness and preparedness trainings to relevant official’s response during times of disasters and national emergencies. “We cannot prevent disasters, but we can prepare ourselves to respond effectively which will significantly decrease and improve the recovery phases” according to Oilouch.

Although there were various agencies that made this activity a successful one, the Ministry wants to acknowledge Palau Red Cross, its staff, and especially the Executive Director for their leadership and engagement in preparing Palau and its relevant agencies equipped and ready to face disasters and emergencies.

The Ministry further wishes to extend its appreciation to the Koror State Rangers for their partnership and collaboration with the Bureau of Public Safety working side by side as an initial significant effort as a result of the MOU signed with the Ministry back in September 7, 2018. And further congratulate them for the victor of the first prize in the Parade. (PR)
