Four kids and a lady were able to escape from a fire that engulfed a residential house in Ngerusar, Airai on October 22 at around 1 a.m.

Public Safety Director Aloysius Alonz told Island Times in an interview yesterday that the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) received a call from an unknown lady informing them of the incident.

Fire officers then responded to the scene and found the house already eaten by the fire.

According to Alonz, the four kids, whose ages range from 4 to 16 years old, sustained minor cuts and scrapes in the process of escaping, while one of them was also treated at the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath due to inhalation of smoke.

Alonz said that three fire trucks were utilized to extinguish the fire and at around 2:30 a.m., the fire was already declared under control.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Division of Fire and Rescue are still conducting further investigation on the incident. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
