KOROR, Palau – The Taiwan-Palau Friendship Pickleball Tournament brought participants from both sides together through energetic competition and continued play, according to Elaine of the Taiwan Embassy. The event drew an enthusiastic response, with President Surangel Whipps Jr. wanting the games to continue and players staying on the court after the tournament ended.

“The game went really well!” Elaine said. “President Whipps even wanted to keep it going longer, and a lot of people stayed to play after the tournament ended!”

That response offered a clear sign of how much participants enjoyed the gathering. Rather than wrapping up when the tournament concluded, many continued playing, extending the opportunity to compete and spend time together.

For Elaine, the most memorable part was the intensity of the matches. She said Ambassador Chen, the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration team and participants from Palau all played with strong commitment, competing for each point.

“I think the highlight was seeing how competitive and exciting the games were,” she said. “Ambassador Chen, the Coast Guard Administration team, and everyone from the Palauan side were really into it, giving their best and fighting for every point!”

The tournament gave players from Taiwan and Palau a shared activity centered on friendly competition. Both groups took part with enthusiasm, and the close attention to each point helped create an atmosphere that Elaine described as exciting. The enjoyment continued beyond the scheduled tournament, as participants chose to stay and play more.

“Seeing everyone having such a great time and enjoying themselves really made me happy,” Elaine said.

She said the turnout and participation left her pleased with how the event went. While she did not provide a participant count, her account of President Whipps wanting to continue and players remaining after the tournament indicates that interest extended beyond the formal competition.

The event also prompted thoughts about future opportunities. Elaine said she would welcome the chance to work with other organizations to arrange more tournaments and invite additional people to take part.

“It also made me think that, if we have the opportunity, I’d definitely love to work with other organizations to arrange more tournaments in the future and invite even more people to join!” she said.

Her remarks point to a tournament that was not only competitive but enjoyable for those involved. The enthusiasm from players on both sides, along with the willingness to keep playing after the event ended, made the gathering a positive experience and left open the possibility of similar events in the future.
