A House Joint Resolution is urging President Surangel Whipps Jr. to negotiate with United Airlines to secure reasonable flights prices to PALAU.

In House Joint Resolution 11-52-11S stated that with an increased number of visitors in Palau, flight fare can be expensive and cost thousands of dollars.

The resolution cited that it is much cheaper for travelers purchasing a round trip ticket from Guam to Manila with a layover to Palau than a round trip ticket from Guam to Palau, although both flights include the same exact flights from Guam to Palau.

The resolution noted that based on their research, it costs only $534, excluding taxes and fees from Guam to Manila, while the same exact flight will charge $1,086 for a round trip ticket from Guam to Palau.

This, they claimed, encourages travelers to engage in “hidden city ticketing” by departing on the layover instead of the final destination.

The resolution alleges that it is “predatory pricing” for travelers to Palau compared to travelers to Manila.

Delegates urge residents to negotiate reasonable pricing instead.

They also urged the president to negotiate for expanded services to Palau with the increasing number of tourists.

  1. Please negotiate also for fair freight charges between Koror and Manila as the current freight charges are too much and discourage business between Palau and Manila. Thank you.
