Imagine with me a sunrise filling the sky with breathtaking colors: pinks, oranges, and yellows. This sight is so magnificent, it’s as if heaven has touched earth.
Have you ever wished to become the sun? Did you feel a pang of sadness knowing you could never paint the sky with those exact hues?
Of course not! You were never meant to be the sun.
Just as you weren’t meant to be the sun, you weren’t meant to be someone else. You are a unique reflection of God’s artistry. The colors you bear (your unique curves, features, and what you might see as imperfections) are all part of your gloriousness.
Yet, often, we try to change this unique sunrise within us, or we distance ourselves from our pain and wounds, minimizing them or comparing them to others. We push through, trying to stay positive, as if chasing after the setting sun.
But as Jerry Sittser shares in A Grace Disguised, “the quickest way for anyone to reach the sun and the light of day is NOT to run west, chasing after the setting sun, but to head east into the darkness until one comes to the sunrise.”
Instead of running from our pain, let’s face it head-on. Just as the sunrise comes after the night, we too can find light after our darkest times. By moving through the darkness with courage and faith, we invite God’s presence. On this journey, we can honestly name our hurts and find healing under His wings. It is here that we discover His love, comfort, and the promise of a new dawn.
So, let’s walk towards the sunrise, embracing our unique colors. Trust that each step through the night brings us closer to the light and hope of a new day.
Own your colors. You are a masterpiece, and your unique light is meant to shine brightly for the world to see.
