Capital Improvement Funds
To Design New Leed-Certified Multi-Purpose Center
and Fund Deferred Maintenance Needs at Public Schools
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs announces $4 million in Capital Improvement Project (CIP) grant funding to design a new Guam multi-purpose/emergency operations center and handle deferred maintenance needs in Guam’s public schools.
“We are pleased to support the CIP priorities identified by Governor Lourdes “Lou” Leon Guerrero that are aligned with our mission to support and improve the quality of life for the people of Guam,” said Nikolao Pula, OIA Director and Acting Assistant Secretary. “These funds provide critical support to Guam and the other territories, an in particular for the ongoing deferred maintenance needs at schools.”
The Capital Improvement Project fiscal year 2021 grants announced are:
Guam EPA Resource Center – $3,000,000 will fund the architectural and engineering design as well as site improvements for a new Guam Environmental Protection Agency multi-purpose center in Tiyan. The proposed building will be LEED-certified and will also serve as an emergency operations center.
Guam Department of Education (DOE) – $1,000,000 will be used towards ongoing deferred maintenance needs throughout Guam’s public schools and an inventory and work order system, to optimize asset utilization and reduce operational cost across Guam’s schools.
