Palau’s powerhouse Jaime Nagata, 30, from Peleliu State, achieved a major milestone at the 2024 Guam Powerlifting Championship series, clinching both the 90kg weight class title and the prestigious Best Female Lifter award. The event, part of the Guam Fit Expo, was held on September 14 at the University of Guam Fieldhouse.

Nagata, sponsored by Clint Moore, had just three months of preparation at Stay Staunch Palau gym before stepping onto the competition stage. Despite the brief training period, she delivered an impressive performance, competing against 32 participants, including 12 women and 20 men. Nagata dominated her category with a combined lift total of 472.5 kg (1,041 lbs.), highlighted by a 182.5 kg squat, an 85 kg bench press, and a 205 kg deadlift.

Her remarkable achievements earned her first place in her weight class and the Best Female Lifter award, which recognizes the top female athlete across all weight divisions.

Following her victory, Nagata expressed her gratitude to Clint Moore, noting, “He really spearheaded everything. I couldn’t have done it without him.” She also highlighted her hopes for the sport’s growth in Palau, saying, “I hope this will expand the sport here in Palau.”

Nagata’s success stands as a testament to the capabilities of female athletes in Palau, particularly in traditionally male-dominated sports. Her triumph not only underscores her personal dedication but also serves as an inspiration for other women in the region to pursue their athletic ambitions.
