The Embassy of Japan in Palau opened its Facebook page in May 2019, and its Twitter account in October of 2019. The Embassy’s Facebook page written both in English and Japanese, shares information targeting both the people in Palau and Japan, while the Embassy posts messages on Twitter mainly in Japanese language for sharing information with Japanese followers.

On May 28, 2020, the Embassy’s Twitter followers exceeded 20,000, which is almost the same number as the population of Palau. Now the Embassy of Japan in Palau ranks 4th in its number of followers among all the overseas diplomatic missions of Japan that have Twitter account.

Within seven months the Embassy’s Twitter account followers have highly increased showing the support and the close bond that the Japanese people feel for Palau and its people, especially during this time of lock down period, due to the corona virus pandemic. On March 28, 2020, the Embassy posted a tweet encouraging Japanese people to visit Palau once the corona virus pandemic is over. This tweet (see below) has got over 1 million views and more than 13,000 Japanese clicked the “like” button.

To continue to promote Palau as an ideal destination for Japanese tourists, Japan Embassy in collaboration with Palau Visitors Authority and Japanese tour operators, has put together a list of promotional videos about Palau which is available on the Embassy’s homepage https://www.palau.emb-japan.go.jp/itprtop_en/index.html.

The Embassy of Japan is using all social mediums available to disseminate updates related to COVID-19 as well as continue to promote Palau’s attractions to the Japanese online community.
