Upon the completion of the Project for Capacity Development of ICU Using Telemedicine under COVID-19 Pandemic, a handover ceremony was held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the Belau National Hospital.
The overall goal of this project is to provide a medical care service system to administer and treat critically ill patients affected by COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Through this project, medical professionals at the BNH will be able to understand the functions and effectively utilize the D2D/N2N (Doctor to doctor/Nurse to nurse) ICU telemedicine system. In other words, this will allow the medical professionals to communicate with other professionals from hospitals abroad for consultation.
In addition to the soft components of this project is the ICU Unit. It is fully equipped with mobile digital x-ray machine, ventilators, ICU patient beds, bedside monitors, other medical equipment, and ICT equipment for D2D/N2N telemedicine ICU system. This unit has its own power generator, water filtering system, and oxygen generator.
This project is one of JICA’s commitment to continue to work with the health sector as part of the “Initiative for Global Health and Medicine” launched by JICA after the pandemic.
