Koror State public parks operating hours are extended to 8 pm every day now. KB Bridge Koror-side Park, Long Island Park, and Ngetmeduch are now open from 6 AM to 8 PM every day.
“All the rules are still the same. No alcohol use, no illegal activities, and others as posted We monitor here for an hour then we go check other parks,” explained Koror State Ranger Henaro Antonio who was walking around Koror-side Park of KB Bridge with his partner Ranger W. Demei.
With limited open public spaces in Koror, Koror State parks are heavily used by the citizens and residents for exercise as well as recreational use.
“Please extend to midnight,” requested a recreational fisherman half-jokingly, of the current hours. Previously the parks’ hours were from 6 am to 6 pm but have been changed recently by Governor Eyos Rudimch to 6 am to 8 pm.
Ngetmeduch park, the island connected on the left side of the causeway leading from Koror to KB Bridge, has not been used as a park for a long time. It was used by Tobishima Corporation of Japan as its office site during the construction of the Airai-Koror Water Improvement project in 2018.
The park is now added to the list of public parks open to the public. Koror State has installed public restrooms and benches and plans are underway to improve the site. (By: L.N. Reklai)
