Overview:

Three Palau utility officials are attending a JICA training program in Okinawa, Japan, from Oct. 14-31 to learn how to stabilize power grids and support the expansion of renewable energy.

Jack Udui Jr. of Palau Energy & Water Administration, Keyslee Kewii and Sherwin Wasai of Palau Public Utilities Cooperation are attending JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Progam, Energy Transition in PICs PJ – 3rd Program in Japan (Grid stabilization measures for the expansion of renewable energy).

JICA’s Technical Cooperation, Energy Transition in Pacific Island Countries Project, aims to promote energy transition and contribute to the decarbonization of the energy sector in the five target countries through capacity building in power generation planning, grid planning, and demand-side measures.

This course, which is one of the components of the project, aims to foster a deeper understanding through site visits and lectures on Japan’s energy transition initiatives. This is the 3rd course provided by the project primarily focusing on “Grid stabilization measures for the expansion of renewable energy,” while also providing a wide range of learning opportunities.
