May 19, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Tenth Koror State Legislature introduced a bill L.B. No. 10-93 to declare temporary moratorium on visitors to Jellyfish Lake and to declare temporary closure of the lake for 4 months.

In the bill findings, it cites that Jellyfish in the Lake has declined resulting in very few visitors to the lake, citing that only 33 visitors went to the lake in April and only 1 went to the Lake in the month of May.

The bill further cites that the Jellyfish Lake requires their support to further recuperate and that as guardians and protectors of this unique resource, it is their responsibility to protect it.

Furthermore, the bill state that this closure would afford the State the opportunity to “maintain, repair and develop facilities” at the Jellyfish Lake.

The bill’s purpose is similar to HOTL purpose to close the Jellyfish Lake but the bill specifies that only the Koror State Legislature and the Governor of Koror State have the authority to open and close the Jellyfish Lake.

The bill was introduced by 12 out of 17 Koror State Legislators. [/restrict]
