A man faced charges for allegedly overtaking a presidential convoy while passing the Airai main road near the Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge at around 11am on November 29.

The suspect identified as Piere Olsudong was charged for disorderly conduct, improper passing/overtaking and resisting arrest after allegedly overtaking the convoy of the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI) President, according to the police report.

Special Assistant to the Minister of Justice (MOJ) Keiden Kintol told Island Times that this is the first time that this happened in Palau since he assumed his position.

Kintol said that ensuring the safety of all Palau visitors is always the top priority of MOJ.

“There is always a first for everything and this is a good example so that the public will know that these kind of activities are illegal,” Kintol said, adding that this case will help raise awareness among the public so that they would refrain from doing the same in the future. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
