An 88-year-old elderly woman who has passed away on January 25th at the Belau National Hospital did not die of COVID but other causes according to the statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

Comments and posts of her death as the first person to die of covid circulated on social media on the same day.  A daily situation report issued by the Ministry of Health and Human Services on Covid cases was photoshopped to say that one person had died of covid.

To address the misinformation and calm the situation, a special report was made by President Whipps, Minister Gaafar Uherbelau expressing condolences to the family of the deceased reported that the MHHS Situation Report was altered and that there has been no covid death in Palau.

Medical doctors from Taiwan and US CDC concluded that even though the lady was positive, she died of other complications and not covid 19.
