On January 9, 2023, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development (MHRCTD) on the JICA technical cooperation project, “Establishing an Eco-Friendly Transportation System”.
In Palau, public transportation is limited and the people mainly use their private car. Due to the recent sharp rise in oil prices, it has become a heavy burden on commuters. For a sustainable economy with environmental considerations such as climate change control, a public transportation system will be necessary in the near future.
This project will support for the making of a master plan for an appropriate public transportation system in Palau and will develop the capacity of Palau to implement the system’s sustainability. Included in the project will be buses to be used for the pilot project.
The planned implementation period for this project is 36 months (3 years). The Palau main counterpart is the MHRCTD in cooperation with MPII, MOE, PVA and various other organizations regarding on public transportation.
If you would like to know more details, please contact the MHRCTD or Palau Visitors Authority.
