After a suspenseful 4-hour wait, spectators witnessed the crowning of the new Miss Independence at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center on Saturday. Ms. Itab Ngirdimau, who was Miss Independence 2019 crowned Kanoelani Foy as Miss Independence 2020.
Afterwards, a series of social media posts were found of different people congratulating Ms. Foy.
In an appreciation post via Instagram, Ms. Kanoelani Foy had this to say “it is an honor to be your Ms. Independence Palau 2020 and I will wear your crown with the utmost esteem, humility, and respect.”
In the island category, Ms. Foy donned a blue above the knee dress with ocean and palm tree illustrations. While her hair was put up in a bun decorated with a flower.
While in traditional wear category, Ms. Foy worn a woven bra along with a multi colored skirt (cheriut).
Once it went to the talent segment of the program, Ms. Foy wowed the crowd with her vocal rendition of “If I Ain’t Got You” by famous R&B Singer Alicia Keys.
Before the performance, she shared to the audience that the song has helped her come out of her shell and has allowed her to make connections with new people.
While performing she showcased her artistic talents by displaying a painting that she made as well t-shirts from her brand called “FTLORD”.
During the career wear segment, she portrayed a nutrionist and encouraged healthy eating as well as exercise.
Miss Kanoelani Foy not only walked away with a crown, but also a $1000 cash prize as well.
One of the judges said that “I think Ms. Foy displayed courage, honesty and sincerity…especially being shy herself and getting in front of 100’s of people and showing her raw talent.”
