A recent report of Palauan couple and their children stranded in the Philippines due to termination of their employment prompted a call for support to help bring them home from the Philippines. In the previous Island Times article, Ministry of State clarified that their former employee Ngerikl Baules was not abandoned in the Philippines but was terminated after failing to communicate with Ministry of State after he was instructed to return home. Ministry of State refrained from addressing Mrs. Baulbei Baules issue as she was not employed by the Ministry of State.
When inquired about Mrs. Baulbei Baules’s status, Ministry of Health revealed that Mrs. Baules was reassigned from her post in the Philippines on September 13 through a letter which told her that she was to report to work in Palau at the Medical Referral Office within the Ministry of Health by October 15th.
Mrs. Baulbei Baules reassignment to Medical referral post in Palau included repatriation arrangement for her and her dependents.” stated Ms. Darnelle Worswick, Director BHA&SS from the Ministry of Health. She did respond and accepted the terms as stated in the reassignment agreement.
Mrs. Baulbei Baules and her children were to be repatriated to Palau by October 15 which was extended to October 28. Lack of communication and coordination from Mrs. Baules was affecting patient medical referral program and the Ministry of Health had to take action to address the problem.
Ministry of Health confirmed that her contract was terminated. (L.N. Reklai)
