(Press release) Mr Ming Ong arrived in Palau under the Australian International Volunteers Program in October 2021 to support the Ministry of Health and Human Services (MHHS) project to digitize health information systems.

As a Health Information Systems Advisor, Mr Ong is working on Project Olangch. The objective of Project Olangch is to digitize the Ministry’s various data systems – from patients’ medical records to environmental health surveys of households for dengue risk, and pharmacy & medical supply chain inventory management.

Working collaboratively with Beyond Essential Systems (the Australian partner organisation for Project Olangch), Mr Ong has conducted needs assessments and mapping within the MHHS to effectively support the roll out of the digital systems. He has also assisted with policy and data research to support decision making processes at MHHS and, at the end of 2021, Mr Ong also worked with MHHS to setup and assist with the management of COVID testing sites across Palau.

Most recently Mr Ong was successful in receiving $10,000 Australian Health Security Corps Small Grant, on behalf of MHHS, to assist with the integration of the pharmacy and medical warehouse IT system (a program called mSupply) with the Ministry’s physical infrastructure. The installation of warehouse storage racks will in part enhance the modernization of the current inventory system and the physical storage of supplies with the improved digital process.
