Several events in the next few weeks will increase Palau’s food, economic, and environment security by connecting local producers to consumers.

The Palau Agri-Fair 2022 will be held on Friday, November 18 at the Bureau of Agriculture (BOA) grounds in Ngchesar. A short program kicks off the event at 9 am, followed by a Day Market with fresh farm and fishery products, demonstrations, a Retailers Feedback Board, and tours from 10 am to 4 pm. Attendees can win prizes such as piglets, free tilling services, and plants. Results of a #KeledANgercheled Youth Forum, held on Tuesday November 15, will be presented.

“The Fair will be a chance for agriculture, fishery, and food producers to connect with retailers so they can help each other have more sustainable, profitable businesses,” said Collin Joseph, BOA Director. This event is part of the #KeledANgercheled Initiative (Our Food Is Our Responsibility).

The Palau Agri-Fair 2022 is co-sponsored by the Senate, House of Delegates, Governors Association, and Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment (MAFE), with financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF6) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The 2nd Biodiversity-Friendly Local Product Showcase will be held on Sunday, December 4 at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center. The event is open to all local artisans, artists, “Creative-preneurs,” and processed/souvenir food product makers. Products must meet biodiversity criteria: bit.ly/BiodiversityShowcase. A special “Buyer Preview” will enable Palau’s business community to mingle and meet producers and forge stronger retail connections.

“The Showcase highlight Palau’s creative community and expresses our commitments to preserving cultural and natural heritage among small and large businesses alike,” said Pia Morei, Director of the Belau National Museum.

Belau National Museum (BNM) and Palau Chamber of Commerce (CoC) are partnering with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Bureau of Cultural and Historic Preservation (BCHP), Palau Visitors Authority (PVA), and MAFE on this year’s exciting event.  Financial support for the Showcase comes from GEF6 and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
