Suspects in the assault and murder of Eisely Richard have been convicted of manslaughter and murder charges that were filed against them in January of this year.

Defendant Hopkins Ngirailild took a plea agreement, pleading guilty to manslaughter while the two other charges were dropped.  He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with 10 years supervised probation and to pay a fine to be determined after a pre-sentencing report.  Charges one (1) and three (3) against him were dropped.

Defendant Nobby Jay, who chose to go to trial, was found guilty of Murder in Second Degree.  His sentencing is set for May 9 after the assessment and report of his status are submitted.

These cases stemmed from an incident that occurred in the early morning of January 28 when the victim, Eisely Richard was found lying in front of Sonia’s Beauty Salong across from Taj Restaurant with extensive body injuries and bleeding from the head.  He was taken to the hospital where later he succumbed to his injuries.

Based on CCTV camera footage of the area at the time, the police officers were able to identify the three men in the same area. The footage matches the suspects Hopkins Ngirailild, Nobby Jay, and a juvenile. The guard confirmed the people in the CCTV camera footage are the same people he saw attacking Eisely Richard.
