KOROR, Palau – Palau’s Bureau of Revenue and Taxation (BRT) announced the successful processing of 2,997 individual wage tax refunds for qualifying residents, totaling $1.79 million. The disbursements, scheduled for February 12 and 13 at the Ngarachamyong Cultural Center, are part of a broader tax reform initiative launched in 2023.
Eligibility for the Wage and Salary Tax (WST) Refund extends to Palauan citizens who earned $15,000 or less in 2023. Among the approved recipients, 1,470 are public sector employees, while 1,527 work in the private sector. State governments employ the highest number in the public sector, with 722 recipients, followed by the National Government (521), state-owned enterprises (168), and semi-government agencies (9).

The WST Refund program stems from Republic Public Law 11-11, a comprehensive tax reform act that also introduced a Goods and Services Tax (PGST) alongside social assistance programs to mitigate the impact of changes in the tax system.
BRT Director Ikeda acknowledged ongoing efforts to verify tax records and address discrepancies reported by employers. “We’re committed to ensuring all eligible individuals receive their refunds promptly,” he said. “Our teams are working diligently to resolve any outstanding issues.”
The refund distribution process represents a collaborative effort between BRT, the Bureau of National Treasury, and the House of Delegates, along with dedicated staff support.
