A new hotel is opening by the end of 2024 in Palau by Hotel Indigo – part of IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG)
According to a press release from IHG, the hotel will be located in Malakal.
The newly built Hotel Indigo Palau boasts 200 rooms that offer “lagoon views with thriving marine life, a majority having breathtaking ocean views,” the release said.
The hotel will have amenities such as a resort center, gym, and function room, which can accommodate up to 50 pax.
Hotel Indigo is part of the InterContinental Hotel and Resorts chain. IHG is a British-American luxury hotel brand and have over 200 hotels worldwide.
Palau’s tourism industry has been experiencing robust growth. In May 2024, Palau welcomed a total of 4,475 visitors. This represents a 2% increase from April 2024 and a significant 78% rise compared to May 2023, according to the latest figures released by the Palau Visitors Authority.
China continued to be the leading source of arrivals, contributing 33% of the total visitors. Taiwan followed with 21%, and the USA/Canada combined accounted for 19%.
The European market made a notable impact, representing 11% of arrivals—the highest proportion recorded this year. Japanese visitors comprised 8% of the total, reflecting a decline since their peak in March.
South Korea registered the lowest monthly figure so far, with only 1% of arrivals, while other countries collectively made up 8%. (By: Bernadette Carreon)
