This past April 23, Saturday, citizens young and old from Melekeok were able to celebrate the occasion by planting trees. In collaboration with the Ngardok 25th Anniversary Committee, tree planting started that morning with Ngaramecherocher, the men’s club of Melekeok, planting 125 tree seedlings at Bertakl, a section of Ngardok Nature Reserve that is made up mostly of lowland savannah. The seedlings they planted, which were btaches (Calophyllum inophyllum), elangel (Pouteria obovata), las (Thespesia populnea), and miich, (Terminalia catappa) were all grown in the Ngardok Nature Reserve nursery.

The day ended with the members of Evangelical Youth Conference planting additional seedlings at Melekeok Elementary School. Ideally, 1 in 5 seedlings will sprout, and a few will reach maturity in 5 to 10 years.

The Ngardok 25th Anniversary Committee would like to thank Ngaramecherocher,  Melekeok Elementary School Family and Palau Evangelical Church Youth Members for their help in planting more native trees into Ngardok Nature Reserve and the Melekeok Elementary School campus.
