KOROR, Palau — The Palau Election Commission (PEC) has officially certified Ngardmau State Delegate-elect Blesoch Aderkeroi, confirming his eligibility to join the inauguration of the 12th Palau National Congress on Jan. 16, 2025.

Aderkeroi secured his seat in the 2nd Runoff Election held on Jan. 8, edging out his opponent, Fermin Meriang, by 17 votes. The runoff followed two previous elections in which the candidates had tied, leaving the seat undecided.

Concerns had been raised about whether the winner of the runoff could be certified in time for the national inauguration. However, after amendments to the election law permitting runoff elections were enacted on Dec. 23, 2024, PEC acted swiftly, conducting the runoff and certifying the results within two days, on Jan. 10.

In addition to Aderkeroi’s certification, PEC also finalized the results of Kayangel State’s Special Election. Hadley Hesus was officially declared the winner of the at-large seat in the 18th Kayangel State Legislature.

Aderkeroi’s certification ensures that Ngardmau State will have representation at the start of the 12th Palau National Congress, a milestone for the new national government. (By: L.N. Reklai)
