Koror, Palau — Jersey Iyar, the current governor of Ngatpang, is expected to withdraw from the race for Ngatpang state delegate in the upcoming general election scheduled for November 12, according to reliable sources.

Iyar filed his petition to run for the House of Delegates along with two other candidates, Ngatpang State Legislature Floor Leader John Techitong and former governor Francesca R. Otong. If Iyar withdraws, only two candidates will remain in the race for the House of Delegates seat. The current Ngatpang delegate, Lee Otobed, has opted to run for the Senate instead.
Sources from Ngatpang indicate that some traditional chiefs and citizens have urged Iyar not to run, expressing their preference for him to continue serving as the state’s governor.
Iyar was re-sworn as governor in January of last year after defeating incumbent Francesca Otong by more than 20 votes.
