KOROR, PALAU ( Mar. 5. 2026) – The 2026 season of the Palau Major League Baseball continues to build momentum as teams battle through the opening round, with one final matchup remaining before the league officially moves into Round 2.

A rain delay earlier this week pushed back the scheduled game between Ngermid and South. The matchup has now been rescheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., where the two teams will meet to complete the final game of Round 1.
Despite the delay, the standings after most of the first round show a tight race developing at the top. Ngerbeched and Airai Ace currently share the lead with identical 4–1 records, while Ngermid sits close behind at 3–1 with one game left to play. Angaur stands at 2–3, followed by South at 1–3, and the Spiders still searching for their first win at 0–5.
If Ngermid secures a victory Friday night, they would improve to 4–1, tying the current leaders and further tightening the competition heading into the next round.
Offensive leaders making an impact
Several hitters have already made strong statements at the plate during the first round.
Leading the league in batting average is Ngermid’s Ngirarois Rechemang, who is hitting an impressive .643 with 9 hits in 14 at-bats, along with 6 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Rechemang has also contributed on the mound this season, showing versatility for Ngermid.
Close behind is Airai Ace’s Joel Tesei, batting .538, while teammate Debesol Ngireblekuu continues to deliver offensively with a .467 average and 6 runs scored.
From the defending leaders, Ngerbeched’s Kan Umang is batting .462, and teammate Tei ich Mitsur has driven in five RBIs while collecting seven hits.
Other standout hitters in the early going include Spis Adelbai of Ngermid (.455), Oniel Yobch of Airai Ace (.400), and Omakius Inacio of Angaur, who has already recorded five RBIs.
Pitching performances shaping the standings
Strong pitching has also played a key role in the early standings.
For Ngerbeched, Lenge Flavin and Ibakes Helacio have each posted 0.00 ERA performances in limited appearances, helping keep the team near the top of the standings. Teammate Sechau Yamanguchi has also been effective, recording a 2.45 ERA across nearly 15 innings pitched.
Airai Ace has leaned heavily on Omsuul Mikel, who owns a 1.84 ERA through 14.7 innings, one of the longest pitching workloads so far this season.
For Ngermid, Ricky Ngchar has delivered a solid start with a 1.80 ERA, while Joey Gates has contributed both as a pitcher and hitter for the team.
Looking ahead to Round 2
With Round 1 nearly complete, attention now shifts toward the next phase of the season. League officials confirmed that Round 2 of the 2026 Palau Major League season is scheduled to begin Monday, March 9.
The remaining game between Ngermid and South will not only close the first round but could also reshape the standings at the top, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting second round of baseball.
Fans are expected to turn out Friday night to see whether Ngermid can join the leaders or if South can pull off an upset and close Round 1 with momentum.
Mesulang to the players, teams, and fans as the 2026 season continues.
