October 30, 2016 (Koror) Over ninety local volunteers from every State in the Republic of Palau showed up the Chamayong Cultural Center yesterday to take oaths before they can be allowed to conduct the 2016 general election on November 1, 2016.

After going over the rules and criteria for being a volunteer for the general election, 6 individuals voluntarily came forward and declared that were not eligible to conduct the general election due to their participation in campaign activities for candidates of this 2016 election.
PEC Vice Chairman Elliot Udui thanked the volunteers for their honesty and urged everyone who feels that he or she may not meet the guidelines, to come forward.
The volunteers are paid stipend for conducting the general election. As this is a national holiday, it is not yet determined whether they will be compensated base on holiday rate or just regular rate.
Volunteers from the outlying States are allowed to get fuel allowance but those Koror will not be getting fuel allowance.
