As tourism recovers, there is a need for workers in various positions in the tourism industry. Still, the demand far exceeds the supply, especially for Palauan workers, according to Minister Ngirai Tmetuchl of the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism & Development (HRCT&D).
“Palau Pacific Resort is advertising nearly all of the positions in their hotel. Hotel Indigo will be opening in November, and they, too, have vacancy announcements for all of their management positions with high starting salaries,” stated Minister Tmetuchl emphasizing the growing demand for employees.

Chief Wanda Remeliik said that employers are seeking local workers. “Especially the tourism industry is seeking local workers. They ask us to please send them the local workers because they want local faces in their establishments,” added Chief Remeliik.
Emphasis on job placement is one of the key objectives of the Bureau of Human Resources this year. “It is the Job Placement Office’s responsibility to help Palauans find a job,” expressed Director Nabeyama.
The Bureau takes it as its responsibility to help each Palauan seeking jobs to achieve their qualifications and/or training to qualify for available jobs.
Minister Ngirai revealed his Ministry’s active collaborations with the Ministry of Education, Palau Community College and WIA to bring exposure and training needed to qualify for jobs available.
“It is part of this office’s mandate to provide training to Palauans so they can be qualified for jobs they seek.” Added Nabeyama.
Director Nabeyama wanted to inform everyone that their office does not only process foreign worker permits but they are also mandated to help Palauans find jobs and urged interested people to contact them.
