Child-Raising Subsidy Provides $100 per Child for Qualifying Families in Palau

Koror, Palau – Parents and guardians raising children in Palau can now apply for the Child-Raising Subsidy program, which offers $100 per child each year to eligible families.

The program is designed to assist low-income families with the financial burden of raising children. To qualify, a parent or guardian must be a Palauan citizen with a total income that falls below $15,000 per year. The child must also be a Palauan citizen residing with the applicant full-time for at least six months.

Obtaining the Subsidy

Valid identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, is required to claim the subsidy in person at the Senior Citizens Center located in Medalaii, Koror. Applications allow parents and guardians to apply for the benefit for up to six children.

Potential Expansion

A proposed supplemental budget bill from President Whipps seeks to increase the subsidy amount from $100 to $200 per child and extend eligibility to include parents or guardians themselves.

Eligibility for Self-Employed

Self-employed applicants can qualify by providing documentation from the Ministry of Finance verifying their income did not exceed $15,000 in the previous tax year. Retired individuals applying for the subsidy can also include social security and pension plan income in their income calculations.

Application Process

Applications for this year are now closed.
