Dear Bedul W,

Thank you for your Open letter to PCC printed on the January 23, 2024 issue of Island Times Newspaper.

There are reasons why PCC trimmed the three ‘ngas’ trees located behind Dorm B on the College campus. Those trees, planted in 1979, had grown so big that they posed danger to the safety of dorm residents. Their roots have also extended toward both Dorm B, Composting Toilets, and the Dorm Rest Hut threatening the structural integrity of these facilities. The roots have even begun to approach the Palau National Track and will soon also threaten the track’s integrity as well.

Rest assured that the trees will regrow as they were only trimmed. Finally, I want to thank you for sharing the same value we place in our unique environment. Should you have any questions or concerns, I invite you to come visit me at PCC so we can discuss them as we work together toward our shared vision of a beautiful Palau.

Sincerely,
/s/ Patrick U. Tellei, EdD President
