With a little over 200 participants from Taiwan already signed up, Palau with Taiwan expects over 600 international participants to attend the 2023 Belau Omal Marathon Event on June 4th, the first marathon in Palau that meets international standards for the sport.
In support of the marathon event, the Palau government issued Presidential Directive No. 23-55, creating the 2023 Belau Omal Marathon Committee charged with planning, coordinating and overseeing the preparation and execution of the event.
The event will include a marathon (42.194 km), and half marathon (21.1 km), a 10 km race and a 5 km race.
The event is a partnership between Palau and the Republic of China- Taiwan, launched by the Palau Visitors Authority with Palau Track & Field Association, sponsored by private partners such as Shing Kong Group, China Airlines, Palau Royal Resort and Palasia Hotel.
Presidential Directive No. 23-55 in support of the event says it “encourages a healthy and active lifestyle for Palauans and supports efforts to diversity Palau’s tourism industry by developing new events.” (By: L.N. Reklai)
