The Pacific Geospatial and Surveying Strategy is the product of several years of collaborative discussion and design amongst PGSC members and partners. The aim of the Strategy is threefold:
- To demonstrate the critical nature of geospatial information and services and the development of these services in the Pacific region;
2.To articulate the aspirations of the region’s geospatial and surveying professionals in advancing capacity within the region and;
- To serve as an entry point for engagement with internal and external partners.
The Pacific Community’s (SPC) Geoscience Division has established the Pacific Geospatial and Surveying Partnership Desk to provide secretariat services and support PGSC in achieving their goals and objectives.
At this year’s PGSC meeting, members look forward to finalising the Strategy and mapping out the next steps for countries and partners to begin implementation.
This process will be facilitated by representatives from Geoscience Australia, the United Nations Initiative on Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM), the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), Land Information New Zealand, and SPC’s Geoscience Division.
