ALOFI (POST COURIER) —Four Port Moresby based Journalists joining media experts across the Pacific in Niue attending an annual 7th Pacific Island News Association(PINA) Summit discussing pressing issues in the Pacific region.
Three pre-summit events including Women in Media (WiM), Pacific Media Assistant Scheme International Development (PACMAS) , Internews and United Nation Development Programme held their discussions in various locations in Alofi, capital of Niue.
PINA president Kora Nou, who is also NBCs Managing Director welcomed the media regional representatives and looking forward to the range of issues that will be discussed affecting the media and ways to address them.
The theme of the summit is “charting a resilient future Pacific Media Navigating Press freedom, Artificial intelligence and Geo Political interests”. Discussions held by Women in Media were joined by female journalists from Post Courier, NBC, PNGFM and Solomon Island , Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia ABC and Asia Pacific Foundation at National Disaster Management office.
FemLink executive director Fay Volatabu said the summit is about connecting the issues by journalists across the country and how these issues can be addressed back in the countries.
One of the topic topics discussed were newsroom challenges faced by women as one of the important agenda and how they can tell their voices through the platform in their respective associations.
