KOROR, Palau – Three Palauan athletes have secured spots in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.
Sprinter Sydney Francisco will compete in the women’s 100-meter athletics event on August 2 at 10:00 AM. Swimmers Yuri Hosei and Jion Hosei will both participate in the 50-meter freestyle, with Yuri competing on August 3 at 11:00 AM and Jion on August 1 at 11:00 AM.
Jimmy Jonas will coach the swimming team, while Uchel Tmetuchl leads the athletics team. Marcy Andrew serves as Chef de Mission for Team Palau, with Stephanie Ngirchoimei and Radley Kazuma as NOC staff.
Officials accompanying the team include Judy Otto (World Aquatics board), Frank Kyota (NOC President), Baklai Temengil (NOC Secretary General), board members Hila Asanuma and Ernestine Rengiil, and Kenny Reklai (representing the Oceania National Olympic Committee).
The athletes and coaches will depart for a pre-training camp in Divonne, France on July 13 before traveling to Paris on July 22. Team management departs on July 18, and NOC officials arrived in Paris on June 23.
Palau will not participate in the Paralympic Games, which follow the Olympics from August 28 to September 8. However, the country has already begun developing programs to qualify athletes for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. (By: L.
