KOROR, Palau (Feb. 9, 2026) — Palau’s national track and field athletes were urged to meet higher performance expectations during a meeting with the Palau Athletics Board on Feb. 6, as officials outlined preparations for upcoming regional competitions.

The board convened the full national team to recognize athletes’ efforts, introduce four new members and present updated requirements for participation in regional events, including the Oceania Championships.

Board President Uchel Tmetuchl told athletes that performance standards have been raised and emphasized the need for stronger commitment and consistent training.

“Performance standards have been raised and that athletes must demonstrate a higher level of commitment and hard work to compete at the regional level,” he said. “The Palau Athletics Board remains fully committed to supporting athletes who are dedicated to meeting these standards.”

During the meeting, board members thanked athletes for their dedication while outlining key priorities for the 2026 season. Athletes were briefed on upcoming qualifying meets that will determine selection for the Oceania Championships.

Officials also highlighted the importance of intensified training in preparation for the Belau Games scheduled for this summer.

The addition of four new athletes expands the national roster as the program works to strengthen its competitiveness at the regional level.

With qualifying events approaching, the board said athletes will be expected to meet the updated standards as Palau seeks to improve its performance in upcoming regional competitions.
