President Surangel Whipps Jr. has proclaimed June as “Environment Month” and June 14th as “Palau Conservation Day” in recognition of the country’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship.

The proclamation highlights Palau’s unique natural resources, including the largest undisturbed forest in Micronesia and the world’s first Shark Sanctuary. It details the nation’s ongoing conservation efforts, dating back to traditional practices and including the establishment of marine protected areas and the banning of reef-toxic sunscreen.

The document also recognizes the work of organizations like the Palau Conservation Society and the Palau International Coral Reef Center. Additionally, it commends Palau’s international leadership role in ocean conservation initiatives such as the Our Ocean Conference and the Alliance of Countries for a Deep-Sea Mining Moratorium.

President Whipps’ proclamation underscores Palau’s dedication to protecting its environment for present and future generations. It designates June as a time to celebrate these efforts and raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship.
