AIRAI, PALAU – Over 100 public and private sector professionals in Palau sharpened their leadership skills at the inaugural Palau HR Professionals Conference, held May 29–30, 2025, at the Surangel Supercenter Executive Conference Room in Airai. Hosted by the Palau HR Professionals Group in collaboration with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Pacific, the two-day event focused on “Strengthening Capacity, Enhancing Workplaces,” empowering attendees with practical tools to boost organizational effectiveness and employee engagement across the nation.
The conference featured intensive training led by two distinguished experts from SHRM’s Pacific State Council:
- Charlotte Huntsman, SHRM-CP, PHR, MA: As SHRM Pacific State Council Director and Chief Human Resources Officer at GRMC, Huntsman brought over 25 years of international HR experience. She shared actionable strategies on effective communication and performance management, crucial for navigating today’s dynamic workplaces.
- Dr. John Rivera, PhD, SHRM-SCP, SPHR: SHRM Pacific State Council Certification Director and Director of HR and Corporate Development at CITADEL Pacific, Dr. Rivera drew from his extensive background in leadership development, government service, and academia. He provided valuable insights into the pivotal role of emotional intelligence in leadership and fostering a highly engaged workforce.
The agenda included three high-impact sessions designed to provide immediate value:
- Leading with Emotional Intelligence: Emphasizing the critical importance of EQ for effective team management and navigating workplace disruptions.
- Driving Results: Mastering Performance Management: Focused on setting clear expectations, building accountability, and optimizing team performance.
- The Art of Effective Communication: Equipping participants with practical verbal and nonverbal communication techniques applicable across various workplace scenarios.
