Palau awoke on Wednesday to sad news of the passing of its 5th President Kuniwo Nakamura.
The charismatic, bold, intelligent and vastly popular man became the 5th President of the Republic of Palau right before Palau gained its Independence in 1993 and served for eight (8) as President. He led Palau through its first 8 years under the Compact of Free Association with United States.
“He was a mentor to many, myself included,” expressed President Remengesau on Wednesday, as he announced the untimely passing of his former mentor and President.
President Remengesau Jr. served two terms with President Kuniwo Nakamura as Vice President. Late President Kuniwo Nakamura had extensive public service experience and have had businesses as long as he had been in office.
He will be missed greatly by his family but also by a nation that he had lead even after his official public service in the government.
