KOROR, Palau — Preparations are in full swing for the 12th Pacific Mini Games, set to take place in Palau in 2025. The event, a cornerstone of regional athletic collaboration, will feature athletes from 25 Pacific nations competing across 10 sports.

Dr. Patrick Tellei, chairperson of the 2025 Pacific Mini Games Organizing Committee, shared insights into Palau’s readiness during an exclusive interview. “This is an incredible honor and responsibility for Palau. We are committed to making these games a success and a showcase for the Pacific region,” Dr. Tellei said.

A Return to the International Stage

Palau was selected as host during the Pacific Games Council meeting in July 2019 in Apia, Samoa. This marks the nation’s second time hosting the event, following its successful debut in 2005. President Surangel Whipps Jr. quickly assembled an organizing committee, unanimously appointing Dr. Tellei as its chairperson to spearhead the preparations.

Sports and Participants

Athletes from nations including Australia, Fiji, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea will compete in a lineup of 10 sports: athletics, archery, aquatics, basketball 3×3, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, judo, table tennis, triathlon (sprint), and more.

“This is not just about competition—it’s a celebration of talent, culture, and regional unity,” Dr. Tellei emphasized.

Upgraded Infrastructure

To ensure the event meets international standards, Palau is enhancing sports venues and accommodations in Koror and Babeldaob. “These upgrades will benefit not just the games but also our community long after the event concludes,” Dr. Tellei noted.

Community Involvement and Volunteering

The organizing committee is calling for volunteers to help ensure the event’s success. “The Pacific Mini Games are about unity and teamwork,” said Dr. Tellei. “We encourage everyone to join us and be part of history.”

Details on volunteer opportunities will be announced soon, providing residents and sports enthusiasts a chance to contribute to this historic occasion.

A Regional Showcase

The Pacific Mini Games are more than an athletic event—they symbolize regional collaboration and cultural exchange. With a dedicated team, Palau is expected to deliver an impactful experience in 2025.

Stay tuned for further updates as preparations progress.
