January 22, 2018 (Koror, Palau) Palau Soroptimist Chapter awarded the first Live Your Dream Award of $1,000 to Lady Ngiratkakl, one of the five applicants of this special award.

Live Your Dream Award, one of the Soroptimist International programs aimed at supporting and empowering women, especially those most in need.  It is the first time that it is awarded in Palau.

This particular award targeted women who are heads of households and trying to pursue better life through further education. The five applications were judged by 5 judges who are not members of Palau Soroptimist and they had difficulty choosing one winner as all the applicants excelled in their applications.

The winner of this Live Your Dream award, Ms. Lady Ngiratkakl, is automatically entered into the $5,000 regional Live Your Dream Award selection as well as the $10,000 International Live Your Dream Award.

An honorary member of Palau Soroptimist, Her Excellency U.S. Ambassador Amy Hyatt, gave special remarks at the award ceremony. She congratulated all the applicants and the winner quoting Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous speech, “I have a dream”.  She encouraged the women to work toward their dreams despite the challenges.  “It is not easy to focus on a career, education and raise a family but it is very rewarding,” she said speaking from personal experience.

Soroptimist Palau Chapter, is a non-profit organization, chartered in 2017 with mission to support and empower women and girls to reach their full potential, especially those facing greater social and economic challenges.

Risong Tarkong, President of Palau Soroptimist Chapter expressed that the Palau Chapter is dedicated to the mission and will continue to work to find support for women and girls in Palau.
