The meeting with Ambassador Liang-Yu Wang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia took place during Whipps’ weeklong state visit to Australia.

Discussions focused on attracting more visitors from Taiwan to Palau, which could provide additional business for local hotels, tour operators, restaurants and other businesses that depend on tourism.

The two sides also discussed strengthening people-to-people connections through cultural exchange and continued cooperation. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close relations between Palau and Taiwan.

Preparations for Whipps’ planned visit to Taiwan next week were also discussed. The visit is expected to provide another opportunity for the two sides to explore areas of cooperation, including tourism and closer ties between their people.

The meeting took place as part of Palau’s broader diplomatic engagement during the Australia visit. A key event during the trip is the opening of Palau’s first embassy office in Canberra, establishing a permanent diplomatic presence in Australia.

The Palau delegation is also meeting with Australian officials to discuss shared priorities and opportunities for cooperation.

The engagements reflect Palau’s efforts to expand its diplomatic relationships and pursue opportunities that could support tourism, economic development and the well-being of its people.
