Palau is going to hold its first “Miss Independence” pageant as part of its 25th Independence Day celebration.
The pageant, which will be opened to all single Palauan females residing in the country with ages 18 to 28, will be hosted by the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA). Other requirements to qualify as a contestant include being fluent in both Palauan and English languages.
State and Community Department manager Katarina Mad said that they are going to choose a maximum of 10 candidates out of the pool of applicants. Final candidates will be picked according to a set of criteria.
The purpose for limiting the number of candidates is for them to be able to have more control over the running time of the program.
Mad said that candidates do not have to represent each state and that all they need to do to register is just submit their applications to the PVA office prior to the July 17 deadline.
Mad said that each candidate can look for a sponsor who can help them with their expenses for the pageant.
Just like any other pageant events, candidates will be expected to participate in several community activities, evening wear competition, and Q and A portion.
Mad said that they are still considering venues for the event.
The pageant is set to happen around the end of September, a few days prior to Palau’s Independence Day celebration on October 1. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
