Palau has confirmed participation in the upcoming Cop28, which will take place in Dubai at Expo City this November.

In June, President Surangel Whipps Jr. expressed support to  the appointment of Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, as Cop28 President-Designate.

“Climate and energy issues are linked. Facing the challenges of climate change and global warming and supporting environmental conservation efforts globally, will require constructive cooperation between oil producers and consumers,” Mr Whipps said in the article by UAE National News.

The 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 28) will take place from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Palau will be joining world leaders in efforts aimed at accelerating progress in four key areas necessary for keeping a 1.5°C limit on warming within reach.

Small Island nations like Palau  were instrumental  in bringing  the Paris Agreement into force in 2015.

The Paris Agreement aims to keep the global temperature rise this century to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
