Palau once again wins a top international award and this time winning the overall ITB (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) Earth Award for world’s top 10 most sustainable tourist destinations.

ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) is the world’s largest tourism trade fair and this year awards organized by Green Destinations celebrating areas doing the most for sustainable tourism, were given out with Palau garnering the overall ITB Earth Award.

Citing Palau’s proactive policies to protect its environment such as the Palau Pledge which urges visitors to help protect the environment to the banning of sale and use of reef-toxic sunscreen, helped Palau to reach the coveted spot.

Meanwhile, half way around the world from the ITB Berlin, Palau also swept up awards at the Japan Marine Diving Fair.

Palau won 1st place for Best Diving Place and Palau Pacific Resort with Best Hotel for Divers. For Best Liveaboards, Palau won two top places with Palau Sports at winning 2nd place and Ryomal winning 4th place.  For Favorite Dive Operator, Palau took 2nd, 3rd and 5th place with Day Dream,  Aqua Magic Palau, and Blue Marlin. For Best Hotel for Divers, Palau Pacific Resort walked away with 1st Place over other Japanese destinations and Tahiti.

Palau environmental position and policies on the environment has garnered most awards and attention around the world this past year, making Palau a top sustainable tourist destination of choice. (By: L.N. Reklai)
